A "healthy" dessert
If you haven't had a chance to try the Blueberry Banana Bread yet, this one is more dessert than anything but it's made with bananas so you can't feel bad about indulging in this amazing dessert.
Again, most of my recipes are so simple a toddler could make them. I don't like complicated things that take too much time or fancy ingredients. Luckily this bread can be made with stuff most people keep in their pantry, and its moist and delicious and is a perfect snack.
Who doesn't love chocolate? This bread is chocolate in chocolate covered in chocolate. but then you taste the banana so you don't feel as bad when you eat half the loaf in one sitting.
The basic idea to this bread is the same as most. You want to mix all the wet ingredients first then slowly add the dry to make sure everything mixes evenly and thoroughly. Last but not least, mix in tons of chocolate chips.
I have noticed something about banana breads and that is cooking time. I swear no matter how many times I make this EXACT recipe and use the exact ingredients it never takes the same amount of time to cook. For example, this time when I made it, it took close to 63 minutes. Other times it only takes 50 too cook through. I think it has something to do with the bananas. Either way, just make sure you are sticking a testing stick in the middle around the 50 minute mark and gaging from there. I know, I know. What kind of cooking advice is that? I have no idea but I swear, it takes a different amount of time each time. Maybe it's my oven. Who knows
I've seen other recipes for chocolate banana bread that want you to use fancy chocolate powders that cost an arm and the leg but I can tell you, the simple Hersey cocoa works wonders and it's cheap and in pretty much every baking aisle.
The trick to a good banana bread is the mushiness of the bananas. You want to make sure they are pretty much already mush in the peel. If you try to make banana bread with normal fresh bananas it won't work. Make sure they are really brown and gross looking. These mash up the best and cook best.
Hope you enjoy this easy recipe.

Recipe
Prep time: 10 mintuescook time: 50-60 minutes
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup Hershey's cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3 large bananas mashed
1/4 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled to room temp
1/4 vegetable oil
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 egg at room temp
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350℉
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside
- In a large mixing bowl, or your stand mixer, add mashed bananas. I find mashing with a fork does best. Add butter until combined.
- Add oil and brown sugar and mix until combined
- Add egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Now add dry mixture a little at a time while mixing until all is added. Mix an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is blended well. There may be some small lumps which is fine.
- Add half of the chocolate chips and blend in with spoon.
- Grease a 9x5 loaf pan and pour in mix. try to only fill 1/2-3/4 full. Top with remaining chocolate chips.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
Yum!!!
