Perfect Pear Margarita

Who doesn’t love a good margarita! The light flavors of lime and tequila are just thirst quenching. However, a fresh margarita is 1000 times better than one made with a mix. As a former bartender, I stand by that statement.
The other thing that makes a great margarita is fresh simple syrup. I have been experimenting with flavored syrups to cut down on the actual time of making the margarita.
This recipe will use my pear simple syrup recipe. However, the good thing about this recipe is that you can substitute pretty much any fruit you want and it comes out great. For example, I have used apple and mixed berries as well. Feel free to add a cinnamon stick or three to it if you want a spicier flavor.
Besides the perfect simple syrup, you want to use fresh lime juice. That bottled stuff is so sweet and has added sugar that you just don’t need.
Yes, squeezing limes after limes is a tedious and exhausting task if you don’t have a juicer like me. But I still believe it’s worth it for a great cocktail. If you don’t want to squeeze all the limes you can buy that little lime bottle, but don’t use sweetened cocktail lime juice. With the added simple syrup you’ll end up with diabetes.
I love white tequila. For a margarita I feel like it is a lot smoother than the gold tequila. However, if you’re set with the gold go ahead and use it. I’m sure it is still yummy.
Another point I feel is important with a margarita is the triple sec. Cointreau is what I use. It has the perfect orange flavor that finishes off the margarita. Of course you could use a cheaper version and get close to the same results.
I always rim my fruity margs with sugar. I save the salt for the traditional.

Recipe

1.5 cups water

  3. Strain mixture into bowl.  Strain again into storage container of your choice. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
